Had a neat thing happen tonight - was just getting on 160M and was setting
up the AGC threshold whicha had been cranked down for another band. As I
moved the threshold up, darned if there was not a weak signal that popped
out that I was not trying to get or in any way aware of - I had picked a
quiet spot on purpose. Amazing receiver. That with noise reduction off.

Later playing with NR on, noticed that this threshold setting does not seem
to do anything. I'm guessing that the Orion takes over control of the AGC
threshold in NR mode. The documentation describes NR setting up an
"optimum bandwidth for SNR" and reducing the AGC threshold but it seems to
really negate manual control of the AGC threshold altogether. Any of you
gurus know what is going on technically regarding the AGC stuff when using
Noise Reduction?
