The solar activity is still very low and is expected to remain so in the next 3 days. The geomagnetic field has been extremely quiet (Kp below 2, even at high latitude) in the past 24 hours. This reflects the slow (320 km/s) and weakly magnetized (<5nT) solar wind. Those conditions are expected to last for one more day. Then, in the second half of Jan.28 or on Jan.29, the fast wind from a low-latitude coronal hole, probably preceded by a corotating interaction region, will start to influence the Earth magnetosphere. Thus, the geomagnetic field may then become unsettled to active, with occasional short minor storms, for 2 or 3 days.
