At 1532 UTC, November 6, 2010, an M5.4-level X-ray flare erupted in the
active sunspot region 1121 (NOAA AR 11121). Two movies are available at
http://sunspotwatch.org - one at the 171-Angstrom wavelenth, and the other
at the 211-Angstrom wavelength. These were captured by the Solar Dynamics
Observatory (SDO).
The flare caused an R2-level (moderate) radio blackout on the high
frequency radio spectrum, in the sunlit side of the Earth. This means
that radio signals were blocked from normal ionospheric propagation.
