I think that some information would be useful in the group discussion, so I am including it here:

Regarding the question of "a map of radio auroral zone", I am unsure what map that might have been.  The "Power" auroral zone maps are no longer being produced.  Additionally, there was another map that showed only the North Pole auroral oval, and that also is no longer produced. Both have been replaced by the maps I am using.

If there is a link, even if broken, please provide that, as I might be able to figure out the status.

These maps on http://aurora.sunspotwatch.com are actually the most accurate, and *can* be used for radio auroral assessment.  Since the "visible" oval is related directly to that portion of the E-region of the ionosphere that is being energized, it can be used, along with angles of incidence, to predict refraction distances.
