Here is the current forecast discussion on space weather and geophysical activity, issued 2018 Mar 17 1230 UTC.

Solar Activity

24 hr Summary: Solar activity was very low. Region 2701 (S12, L=100) decayed to plage. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed in available coronagraph imagery.

Forecast: Solar activity is expected to continue at very low levels over the next three days (17-19 Mar).

Energetic Particle

24 hr Summary: The greater than 2 MeV electron flux reached high levels with a maximum flux of 13,800 pfu observed at 16/2110 UTC. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was steady at background values.

Forecast: The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to reach high levels each of the next three days (17-19 Mar) due to high speed winds associated with a CH HSS. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux is expected to remain at background levels throughout the forecast period.

Solar Wind

24 hr Summary: Solar wind parameters reflected the continued influence of a negative polarity CH HSS. Solar wind speed steadily increased from a minimum value of around 420 km/s to a peak of 524 km/s late in the period. Total field strength decreased from 12 nT early in the period to around 2-3 nT after 17/0300 UTC. The southward component of the magnetic field was sustained southward until around 17/0100, briefly reaching a peak of -12 nT. The phi angle was negative throughout the period.

Forecast: Solar wind parameters are expected to continue at enhanced levels on days one and two (17-18 Mar) as influence from a negative polarity CH HSS is expected to persist. Enhanced wind parameters are expected to gradually relax by day three (19 Mar) as CH HSS slowly wane.

Geospace

24 hr Summary: The geomagnetic field was unsettled and active this period under CH HSS influence.

Forecast: The geomagnetic field is expected to reach active levels on days one and two (17-18 Mar) under continued CH HSS influence. By day three (19 Mar), field activity is expected to decrease to quiet and unsettled levels as CH HSS influence wanes.
