Bob,
I had just that happen a few weeks ago. We kept hearing a noise in the
kitchen that sounded like a rattling/buzzing noise that would last just
a few seconds then stop. My wife narrowed it down to a corner and
noticed the GFI was tripped. She reset it and a little while later we
heard the noise again but we hadn't put the GFI tripping and the noise
together.
I pulled up a chair and was going to figure out what it was making the
noise when I noticed her cell phone on the counter was directly above
the GFI, about 3 inches above it. I moved the cell phone and we haven't
heard the noise or had the GFI trip since.
That's my story and I'm sticking with it!
