To the list: The e-mail below was sent to several list members and also
to the list, but it apparently never made it through the list server. I
hope you don't mind my addressing it here.

Hi Ron,

First, I hope you don't take offense to this (none is meant), but I'd
like to address what's the purpose of the RFI list. The Contesting.com
FAQ indicates that "discussions should be focused on providing
information to assist amateurs in interference solutions." Since the
only sentence referring to amateur radio operators has the word "should"
in it, that does open the door a bit for non-amateurs to make inquires
such as this. I've actually had non-ham individuals e-mail directly
about audio "noise" from CRTs!! However, the original intent was to
assist hams in the "Elmer" spirit of Amateur Radio.

That said, I don't have problems with non-hams asking questions directly
of me or even on the list because the FAQ isn't completely clear on
this. I'd like to hear the thoughts of others on this list. Perhaps a
change to the FAQ page is in order to clarify this?

On the other hand Ron, I get the feeling your request for help is more
of a commercial nature. From your e-mail, it appears that you work for
Boeing, a company of substantial size and financial assets. The
equipment mentioned isn't home equipment, but commercial in nature.
Since some of the guys on this list do professional consulting or
contract work in this field, I feel we'd be taking away a paycheck from
them by changing the spirit of this list to include questions of this
nature.

All that said, I've also experienced the clicking noises from Nextel
phones and even had something like that from my P25 trunked digital
radios. Usually the noise is induced directly into the devices such as
telephones or an AM radio when in very close proximity. Moving the "RF"
device away from the susceptible device is all I've ever had to do.

Something for you to try first is to pick up as many of the Radio Shack
square ferrite cores as you need (i.e. number of speakers on the
systems), and installing them onto the speaker wires as close to the
system's amplifier as possible. These ferrites come with reasonably
good instructions for installation.

If the ferrites don't do the job, the next step should be to contact the
audio system vendor for their recommendation or referral to a
professional who can resolve the problem. Good luck!

We have been with in the last 2 months having a interference problem in
out Videoconferencing rooms and on Telcons through out the country. Its
with out a doubt caused by Blackberries and Nextel cell phones and some
other brands of cell phones. Its obvious to us that the problem is on
the new side as six months ago we hadn't had any problems.

When the phone or Blackberry is being called this interference is very
intense and is basically picked up by the microphones in the conference
room, also some phone pick it up also. We are working with or audio
system vendor ClearOne and their product is the XAP800 using assorted
types of microphones. We are trying to come up with a method to solve
this issue with anything that might work, Filters, Shielding, and RFI
resistant microphones.

I started looking this issue up on the WEB and ran into a site and
grabbed all your email addresses, considering the subject and your
expertise would any of you have suggestions as to my options for solving
this problem

Attached is the Blackberry interference............clicking pulses
