I just wanted to echo what you said ... and pointing out that others whose
opinions I respect have experienced the same thing, that the air-wound coax
coil is pretty much ineffective at HF.
Of course you are quite right that anecdotal evidence is no science. I read
and highly respect your RFI writings and consider you quite an expert on
this.
(Though I do personally wonder why there are still so many references to the
"pin 1" problem ... since I thought it got its name from the pin 1 on XLR
connectors, and I doubt many people outside the pro audio field use those.
:-) It seems like it ought to be given a better name.)
Regarding the ARRL handbook, my take on it was that it never was correct ...
not that the data there somehow went out of date. Apparently I was wrong.
