I am suddenly hearing a lot of RFI, after many hours
of rain, here in SE-GA where it has been very dry.
The rig is an Alinco DX-70TH, the pre-amp/RF gain is
at the lowest setting.
It is loudest on 80, slowly drops on 40, then continues
to weaken until barely discernible on 12m.
On 80m it renders the band almost unusuable, on 40m
it is a nuisance but a strong signal gets through.
It sounds like a motorboat, varying in speed and in
volume. There is no neighbor nearer than 500+ feet
of the vertical.
I cannot hear it at all on the NVIS dipole, even with
the pre-amp/rf gain set on high.
The Alinco noise blanker knocks it down a lot.
I have checked around the house and no one is running
anything but computers. We do have an above-ground pool.
Are those pumps prone to RFI like this?
