I think also most of the Yaesu VX-series handhelds, the
Kenwood TH-F6A, and others include AM receive on HF.
I think the TH-F6A may also include CW/SSB rx on HF.
Also, I believe that the new yaesu FT1DR handheld covers
504 kHz - 999.900 MHz (AM) plus 108 MHz - 580 MHz (FM)
and digital mode.
Lots of choices out there for a daily use 2/440 handheld
also good for RFI-chasing.
You mention that your hand held can't hear the RFI. I presume that
is because it tunes VHF and/or UHF FM only. Be aware that some HTs
have full HF AM reception, the Icom IC-91A and 92A among them. (Yes,
I can listen to WWV at 5 and 10 MHz with my HT as a time check.)
Such an HT would be very helpful in tracking down an external
source.
