The chirp is kind of unusual, but I wonder if it's someone on a piece of
exercise equipment? Kind of slow for a treadmill, but maybe not for a
stair stepper or rowing machine, etc. When I see/hear 14 khz repeating
signals of that nature (but not so chirpy) it's often related to a variable
speed drive located in a piece of exercise equipment. The periodic
increase in intensity is usually when the variable speed drive is under a
varying load such as when someone has put his foot back down on the
treadmill, etc.
Not sure what to say about your "drift" comment.
I track down a new source of interference approximately every 2 to 4 weeks,
and I have found that it makes no difference what you think it might be
(only thing that matters up front is if the source is power line arcing
related or not as that will then dictate using different direction finding
equipment at some point in the direction finding process). The only thing
that's important is that you track down the location of the source, and
then you can figure out what it is. I find keeping an open mind is the
most efficient way to track down interference.
I doubt it's 2 miles away. Most likely within a half mile of your location.
P.S. 6 am is a very common time for folks to get on their exercise
equipment around my neighborhood (before starting their work day, etc.).
