Tom,
If you have 3 conductor outlets (not just 2 cond), your electrical panel
probably has a ground wire connected to your cold water pipe somewhere. That's
how I found mine wired before I added a connection to my outdoor ground rods
along the back of the house for my ham shack. Now everything's bonded together
on an underground buss. My house was built in about 1977-78 so cold water
copper pipes were probably still code then. I think recent water piping
changes may have made that a thing of the past.
