At this point, since no one else heard it, I suspect it is "local", but, BOY!,
is the signal ever
weird!!! I've never heard anything even remotely like it.
At times, it sounds, literally, like a steam-engine's chuffing at a low level
across the entire
band, while at other times, it sounds almost like a keyed, horribly unstable,
CW transmitter
at S-8 to S-9, followed by some periodically-recurring very wideband, drifty
data
transmission.
Then it as suddenly disappears at it appears.
It is going to be difficult for me to track down.
Furthermore, it is "new", as I spend a lot of time on 40 meters and have never
experienced it
before.
So far, due to its relatively short duration, I have not been able to discover
it on any other
band than 40 meters.
Keeping my fingers crossed...
