Prior to retirement (good income) I used to purchase 100 at a time.
Keeping a large number of very fragile pieces on hand required tying up
cash and it carried the inevitable risk of breakage and I have done that
far too many times
Post retirement I'm not so eager to spend $400 to $500 on parts that
might take me 5 or 10 years to use.
Actually, I went through the first batch in a short time..

I just bought 12 #43 toroids from Arrow Electronics, partly for

shipped from the Netherlands, possibly to avoid tariffs. It is my
understanding that this tactic is rather widely used. Bottom line --
if you're buying stuff like this, it's worth shopping around,
especially with vendors with significant world-wide presence. I've
found Arrow to be a particularly good vendor for relatively small
purchases -- free shipping for web orders over $50 for anything in stock.
