Much wisdom in this post, especially the fundamental principle that most
noise is radiated by wiring connected in some way to the noise source
and received on our antennas, and that the strength of the noise in our
radios is strongly dependent on both the distance between those antennas
and the source, as well as the orientations of both.
Another factor in our PERCEPTION of the noise from any given source is
how strong the noise is that we hear from other sources that surround
us. Weak signals we want to work are often S2-S3; we're unlikely to
notice an S5 noise if all those other sources sum to S7 in our antenna.
That's why I never trust an observation that any given product is
"clean" unless the person reporting has carefully probed it in a
controlled situation with a battery-powered receiver.

As Don recommended check out K9YC.com for articles on using ferrites for RFI
reduction. If it's radiating that far away, it's probably getting on your AC
wiring whose length somewhere is resonant. I once found RFI from a touch lamp
that I eliminated from a neighbor's house a block away by unplugging an unused
extension cord in their garage. So wiring resonance is something to think
about, and it's in your own house making it easier to find and resolve if
that's a part of the problem.
