Joe (IT9BLB) was so kind to invite me (DF4OR) to his vy nice contest QTH nr
Palermo, Sicily. After setting up some wire antennas for 80 and 40 (20, 15
10 already in place), we encountered some problems with the setup of RckRTTY
and PK232 (thanks Walter for the support!). So the first few Qs were lost,
sorry for the confusion. The rig just wouldn't go back to receive...
After a while we figured it out, but had to sacrifice direct keyboard
communications and had to rely only on the prepared buffers.
With mediocre conditions we were surprised about the long runs of more then
60 or even 80 Q/hr, most likely due to the fantastic takeoff at a high
mountain right on the coast. Short skip to Europe on 10m was nearly
impossible, ok on other bands.
No NA on 80, some on 40, although activity was good. No rare DX, ZL2AMI and
ZS6RVG provided much needed multis. Few SA stations. Some 5 band sweeps,
mostly with Asiatic Russia, some EU.
Plenty of SP stations, Joe and I never knew that there are so many QRV in
RTTY hi, an impressive effort from SP side - mni tnx! We had runs of more
than 20 SP stations calling us in sequence, even near the end of the
contest... amazing.
A vy satisfying result, together with nice sunny weather, a location with
spectacular views and fantastic HF takeoff made this a memorable weekend for
me. Thanks Joe!
