Which socket are you missing? All of the three-socket systems I've seen have
mic-in, line-in and line-out. If that's what you have, you'll need a pair of
amplified speakers to plug into the line-out socket because line-out won't drive
speakers directly.
On my motherboard I have only an 8-bit sound system. The WriteLog checker gives
it a 7f rating and says it should run WriteLog ok, which it does, and MMTTY runs
ok too. But not RiTTY by K6STI. When I try to run RiTTY, it says "8-bit A/D,
Primitive Mixer" and won't even start. I guess I feel embarrassed. :-)
This is a little off the subject, but I'm in the process of getting more
soundcards to see if I can find one which works with RiTTY. I am told this is
difficult if not impossible, so we'll see.
