Well, I got the supply going today. Working fine on the '840. All who suggested the filter cap were right. At low current it was OK, but when I turned up the power, the it sounded horrible in the other radio-all sorts of hum and junk. Put in a 37,000mfd 25 volt cap and works like a charm now.
