I have to agree with Jerry, all my rtty life I wanted a Dovetron, I finally got one. It worked fine, but with the variable tuning of the mark and space I was never on the other guys freq. I used it as a front end on a PK-232. After about 6 months I got rid of it, the soundcard/mmtty is far the best terminal unit I have every had in my 28 years on rtty. Maybe MITTY is a bit better but MMTTY sure does a excellent job.

My suggestion, don't buy it, buy a soundcard interface like the Rascal, and use MMTTY

If this is the aprx 4 inch high x 19 inch wide unit with red LED " + scope" display in the middle, I am familiar with it. I had a couple of them and used them as TUs in conjunction with WriteLog software. I used them as "Dumb Terminals", which means they simply demodulate the tones and output the standard 5-bit RTTY codes.

Their main feature was that the mark and space tones could be independently set, and were infinitely variable within the given ranges. Problem is that in ham band RTTY you don't need that because we use fixed tones, fixed shift, etc.

In most ham stations with modern computers, the sound card solution, such as MMTTY, works very well. A piece of hardware like the MPC-1000R is pretty, but doesn't work any better.

Unless you particularly want a dumb hardware TU to play with or want to actually drive an old mechanical printer with it, it has few advantages.

It appears to be in good working condition, etc.

After reading the documentation that accompanied the unit, I
have a few questions:

1. What software is available for use with this unit? Which one(s)
do you recommend?

2. What is the best way to connect this unit to my PC? Via serial?
Or?

3. Are there any sources for said cables or will I have to homebrew
them?

Any advice, hints, tricks, etc you can provide are greatly appreciated.
