All,
Well at least I was able to keep one radio operating out of two in the new,
untried station. Only had ONE folded dipole for two radios, hi. And it is
only up 20 feet right in front of a nice row of trees, ugh. And the end is
right at the house (hung on the bare Oscar tower - no antennas up there
yet, have to do HF first) SO lots of RFI in everything. The end points to
Europe, hi.
So the goal was to operate a few hours to find the problems. I had success
- I have a long list of things to fix. Spent some time trouble-shooting.
Could only run less than 300 watts into the dipole without blowing
everything away. But did manage to work some ZL, ZS, ET but no JA. Had the
same one way prop feeling that others commented on - stations that should
have heard me, didn't. Saw lots of new calls this time, that's encouraging.
To those who worked hard to get my report (AA5AU et al) the tower should be
raised in about two weeks. Hope to have the beam up before the CQRJ in late
Sept. Had the same problem with the Writelog Band Map being lost from the
Icom 756 Pro II. But I went back to an Icom Band Decoder in the new station
rather than using the WX5D keyer and LPT so it is a non-problem now.
So all in all it was a good shake down run.
73 and cul
