For what it's worth, and to possibly help you avoid a big mistake...
I had an IC-746PRO which got damaged by lightning last summer. I had
used it for RTTY contesting for about two years, dozens of contests.
I wanted to try a new rig, so I shopped around, read all the reviews
and bought a Mark V Field.
I have never been so disappointed in a rig in my life, mainly in the
lousy receiver. I sold it after two weeks and bought the big brother
to the '746, the IC-756 PRO III, which has essentially the same
receiver plus some bells and whistles. Both the Icom rigs are designed
from the ground up with RTTY in mind, not as an afterthought.
Now happy as a clam.
