As if there wasn't enough grief on 40m between cw/rtty ops...just wait
until 2007. 40m will be a joke compared to 80m.

>From ARRL Bulletin 30:

Also today, the FCC also adopted an Order on Reconsideration, in WT
Docket 04-140 -- the "omnibus" proceeding -- agreeing to modify the
Amateur Radio rules in response to an ARRL request to accommodate
automatically controlled narrowband digital stations on 80 meters in
the wake of rule changes that became effective today at 12:01 AM
Eastern Time. The Commission said it will carve out the 3585 to 3600
kHz frequency segment for such operations.

Not only do US amateurs lose 60% of the previously authorized
digital spectrum on 80 meters, now we have the WinLink and auto
Pactor bots running wild on about half of what can reasonably
expected to be available for RTTY operation in the US.

Of course it probably won't matter now that the Commission is
completely eliminating all Morse requirements.

Turn out the lights - the party's over. The fat lady is singing.
