In my message below I stated "When did you take your two 3-hour breaks?" When
I wrote that sentence, I was thinking about what I typically do. I have been
taken them back-to-back during the night.
My statement in the first message is misleading. The contest rules say you take
two breaks that total a 6-hour block. These two off-times can be 30 minutes and
5.5 hours, 4 and 2 hours, or whatever you choose. Here's the exact rule:
2. Date and Contest Period: First full weekend of January, but never on January
1. Begins 1800 UTC Saturday, ends 2400 UTC Sunday (January 5-6, 2008).
1.. 2.1. Operate no more than 24 hours.
2.. 2.2. The six hours of off time must be taken in no more than two blocks.
It's a good thing we have the practice sessions because I had to correct the
exchange (RST + State). This head cold just isn't providing clear thinking!
Last night netted only 22 contacts on 80m. When I called Ed, P49X, all I could
get was a QRZ? at 50 Watts, but turning up the power to 150 Watts we exchanged
info on the first try.

Subject: ARRL RTTY Roundup 18:00 UTC 5-Jan-2008
The ARRL RTTY Roundup kicks off at 18:00 UTC on January 5, 2008. You will
find the rules here: http://www.arrl.org/contests/rules/2008/rtty.html
Now might be a good time to review and compare your old RU logs to look at
your "performance" from previous years. What were your strong hours? When did
you take your two 3-hour breaks? What were your strong states and provinces?
Using the ARRL Roundup Log Analyzer you will find tables and charts that
provide the answers. You can download a free copy here:
http://chudek.aberon.net/index.cgi?mode=album&album=/Files%20-%20Spreadsheets/Contest%20Log%20Analyzers%202007
Using the ARRL Roundup Contest Scheduler you can plan your strategy for this
year's event. You can download a free copy from here:
http://chudek.aberon.net/index.cgi?mode=album&album=/Files%20-%20Spreadsheets/Contest%20Schedulers%202008
Both of these tools were created in Excel 2003 but should work with any
version. If you don't have the Excel program, you can download a free viewer
from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c8378bf4-996c-4569-b547-75edbd03aaf0&displaylang=EN
I'll be looking for you in the contest this weekend!
