I almost never transmit on 160 because of antenna difficulties but I
understand both sides. I really don't think it has anything to do with the
propagation nature of the band. For one group it is a refuge from the
crowds, contesting, dxing, whatever. It is nice to listen to a quiet band,
at least not transmitted noise. For the other group, the bands inactivity
and difficulties are exactly what makes it so appealing!
I somewhat grudgingly agree with the fact that If we don't use it we will
lose it. But what a pleasure to listen to a band that don't have a bunch
of so-called amateurs acting like a bunch of spoiled brats!!!!!! I for one
am sick and tired of the infighting and outright vulgarity heard on the
upper bands. I would be far more concerned about the trash being
transmitted on all bands then by other amateurs making use of the bands.
I think that rtty contester's could manage contests in a manner that
wouldn't be a detriment to the band. But let's cool it with the
competition, give the contest our best shot but remember that it is only a
contest, not life and death!!
