I've been chasing DX since 1965, but didn't get on RTTY until 2008. I'm
not making an all-out effort to work everything as fast as possible
because I'd like to prolong the enjoyment of the chase. Even so, I've
worked 259 countries so far and also WAZ.
I have a wantlist spreadsheet for RTTY and for the 8 bands I operate for
DXCC Challenge. Looking at it, one of the things that stands out is that
there are quite a few countries that are common on CW or SSB, but
apparently not on RTTY. I found 15 that I have confirmed on all 8 bands,
but still need on RTTY, and only 3 of them haven't been active at all
since 2008. If I look at countries I have confirmed on 6 or 7 bands but
still need on RTTY, the list gets even longer.
It occurs to me that someone looking for a place to go to operate a RTTY
contest might find some of these to be a good place from which to run up
a big score.
For example:
In North or South America: HK0 San Andres, 8R, and 9Y
In Europe: 4U1ITU (The ONLY country in Europe I still need)
In Africa: 5R, 5T, 5U, 7X, 9J, A2, TZ, XT
In Asia: A7
In Oceania: FW, T30, T33, V7
I really enjoy RTTY, although in some of the big pileups I feel like I'm
beating my head against the wall. I spent about 7 hours over 2 days
calling the recent 6O0CW operation on RTTY before finally making a contact.
