While updating the Russian RTTY contest records for 2012 on rttycontesting.com,
I noticed the scores are significantly higher in
2012 than any previous year for the single operator category in World, Europe,
Asia, USA and Canada. For instance, RG9A won world
single op with a score of 4,363,375 and the highest previous single op score
was 1,754,500 by 7X0RY in 2006. Continental/Area
records were either more doubled or nearly doubled in Asia, Europe, USA, and
Canada. However, no new records were set in Oceania,
Japan, Africa or South America. Was there a change in the rules for 2012 that
caused these increases or were conditions and
participation just way up this year?

Records go back to 1996 so to see some of these scores way high seems unusual.

Appreciate any information on this.

Thanks & 73, Don AA5AU
