That's all well and good ... but if a Director is going to do what is
in the best interest of amateur radio as a whole he needs to understand
the difference the ARES "shack on the belt" Keystone Kops world and
more traditional HF/weak signal VHF/UHF/SHF activities. In addition,
the ARRL staff from Chief Counsel and CEO on down have a duty to teach
these new directors the facts of life, a sense of greater perspective, and guide them when they get out of bounds like the children they are.

While the West Gulf and Roanoke Directors may have started this fiasco,
the CEO and Chief Counsel are responsible for not guiding them in a
productive, appropriate direction.

You realize that the road to becoming an ARRL official runs through ARES.
Nearly all of them are former ARES Section Managers, DECs, ECs, etc. and
therefore are more experienced with VHF EmComm than with HF communications. To
them, digital means D-Star and Winlink. Most spend more time bouncing signals
off repeaters than the sky.
