I'm swamped in harvest issues right now, but here is my thinking.
First, I'm delighted with Cheryl's offer to organize a group RTTY Contesting
Dinner at the Dayton Hamvention next spring. I really appreciate her
efforts on our behalf.
Her proposal has a couple of nice benefits. Looking back at Fred's WW4LL
survey of us on the prior two year's RTTY Contesting Dinners, there was
consensus that the Crowne Plaza was a good location but that the dinner
service and food were disappointing for some people. Trying the Spaghetti
Warehouse next year allows us to compare another alternative, yet it is only
a block or two from the Crowne Plaza. People staying at the Crowne, or
parking in the attached parking structure, can conveniently walk over to the
Spaghetti Warehouse.
Finally, I encourage at least two more people to step up and help Cheryl.
One person to organize the prize raffle (assuming attendees want that) which
consists mainly of securing prize donations beforehand. This takes some
time and should not be left on Cheryl. Maybe the raffle organizer could
further divide up the prize solicitation among several additional
volunteers.
The other volunteer could help Cheryl by finding a dinner speaker and/or MC,
again, if that is an important aspect of the evening for attendees.
Cheryl, herself, will have enough to work on with interfacing between the
restaurant and the (often changing) gaggle of attendees. If you've ever
organized an event like this, you'll know what I mean!
