Lee, I run and Win7 virtualbox guest with N1MM on ubuntu. You should
check your audio levels all the way through
Check:
Input levels in pavucontrol
"Recording devices" level for virtualbox in pavucontrol
Recording levels in the Windows guest
There's an unholy relationship between the first two I haven't quite
figured out yet, you need experiment.

When running MMTTY or FLDIGI standalone in virtualbox the print doesn't
come out well enough to use but MMTTY (Wine) and FLDIGI (Linux) seems to
run much better (at least as far as decoding receive signals goes). I'd
like to run this stuff in a virtualbox Windows 7 session. In virtualbox,
I have it set to use 4 processors (i5-4460, 3.2GHz) and 4096 MB of
memory with 100% execution. I guess that's not good enough? Looks like
MMTTY works OK in a virtualbox Windows XP guest session though. But,
N1MM locks up in XP.
