I've always suspected the problem is that these stations don't even have a
number-only message set up.

number fills
Great idea! Because of this scenario I try very hard to avoid asking for
repeats.

You know how it goes:
............ N3QE N3QE N3QE DE XX1X XX1X XX1X TU CFM (123) PSE COPY 5NN
*3?FE2 BK KN
NR AGN NR AGN
............ N3QE N3QE N3QE DE XX1X XX1X XX1X TU CFM (123) PSE COPY 5NN
3JGERE BK KN
NR AGN NR AGN NR MANY TIMES
............ N3QE N3QE N3QE DE XX1X XX1X XX1X TU CFM (123) PSE COPY 5NN
3VE@A$ BK KN
Every time, of course, you get perfect print on all the information you
don't need and never get good print of the serial number that you actually
need and that the other guy only sends once.
But I saw something even better this weekend:
" SEND MORE NUMBERS ".
I wonder if it was inspired by " SEND MORE COPS " from Return of the Living
Dead? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLSL8E-FLrQ
