First of all, confirming the contact by E-mail is a no-no for a real
contester :-)

Second of all, deciding on whether it was good or not has to be done on a
case by case basis by the operators. Was there, or was there not, a meeting
of minds by both parties that the QSO actually took place and had been
completed?

In very difficult conditions this can be hard enough for a conventional
contest.

In a sprint it's a lot tougher especially if the other op has already
QSY'ed. You hope the TU comes through before you QSY but it doesn't always,
and some operators aren't always sending the TU.

In any contest there is still an opportunity to repeat a doubted QSO
(although harder in a sprint). No contest will penalize you for having a
dupe in the log (unlike the old paper log dupe rules.) Most folks will
simply work dupes with no complaint but some will refuse to work the dupe -
their loss especially if you have already deleted the doubted QSO info.
