At the Kenohoochee Hamfest in Marietta, GA, on 3/16/2002, a meeting of
the SECC was called to order by our President Gary, K9AY.
In attendance were K9AY, K2UFT, AA4LR, W4ATL, KS5M, KD3UC, K4SB, N4XMX,
N4NX, K4OGG, K4JRB, NE4S, KT4ZB, K4EA, K4TW.
Gary opened the meeting with a discussion of the revised ARRL member
eligibility rules for the upcomging 2002 fall contest season. One
important change is that clubs will now define what constitutes a member
in good standing. Currently, our bylaws require a 2 meeting / yr
attendance to remain in good standing.
Gary agreed to draft a revision to the bylaws to remove this requirement.
The requirement to submit two contests scores would remain.
Gary turned over the meeting to our GQP contest Czar, Jeff KD3UC. Jeff
initiated a discussion on two important issues: the contest date, and the
rules.
There is some concern over the GQP date being in the middle of the hot GA
summer, with propagation conditions being somewhat poor at that time of
year as well.
There was also some discussion of possible rule changes. One interesting
proposal was to make mobile stations worth three points. This would
increase the popularity of mobile stations.
Changing rules requires a lot of notice for contest software vendors, so
it is unlikely to happen this year.
K4SB made a motion to set the date for the 2002 GQP the same as last
year. This motion passed by acclaimation.
K4OGG to handle the plaques for the GQP.
K4SB initiated a discussion of "adjusting" the circle to include more
contesters. There is a concern that adjusting the circle in one direction
might exclude others in the opposite direction.
K4SB agreed to do a computer analysis of the current contest membership
to see if relocating the circle could possibly include more contesters
without excluding others. AA4LR agreed to send Ed a copy of the
membership database.
