I just received the ARRL propagation email which made me wonder to what
extent do SECC members use propagation information? I've prepared band
charts in the past, based on propagation predictions, but I find that I
don't use them. My own experience is that propagation information is in
fact a prediction and while it might put you in the ball park, it really
does not tell you with very much accuracy which band will open at what
time. What I do in practice is use the second radio, or maybe the first
radio, to find out when a band is open, then go with it.
Do any of you use propagation predictions, particularly for DX contests? How?
