Larry ..
I think the spirit of rule is to try to get those who DO use a computer to
send us electronic logs and NOT paper printouts from the logging programs. I
would venture to say that 99.9 % of those who operate GQP or any other contest
as serious entry use computer logging. It is understood that there is a very
small percentage of people who don't use computer logging - but the odds are
very small that those people are even going to win a category anyway. We will
still accept your logs and list you in the results - but you just can't win a
plaque.
The odds are very good that I will be taking over the GQP next year ...
I don't want to have to manually enter a log of 500 contacts manually just
because someone didn't take the time to do it themselves. Plus I don't want to
try to figure out what someone wrote down on a piece of paper. I did the Ohio
QSO Party for 3 years and you wouldn't believe how bad some people's writing is
!!!
For those who don't have a computer - or don't like using one - there is
nothing stopping you from logging on paper and then manually entering them in a
logging program afterwards. The NA software is available for FREE from
the GQP website. There are also other programs that are available for FREE
as well - CT and N1MM come to mind. You don't have to interface them to a radio
for them to work.... you can use them to just log your contacts. It doesn't
take "rocket scientist" to use any of these logging programs. Also, If you
don't have a computer - go to your local library and use one there.
I just can't imagine that anyone without basic computer skills could even
survive and hold a job in today's business world. I would guess that Jeff -
KD3UC - who is the current GQP director -or- anyone else who has done the GQP
job in the past will echo these comments.....
