Below is my submitted claimed score for the Oregon QSO Party. I also
sumitted a claimed score for the FISTS Spring Sprint of 114 QSOs x 32
mults. 85 on 20 and 29 on 40. 3.30 hours. 20 and 15 were dead. 20
was really terrible with weak signals from most everyone. Only DX was
HB9DCL. 40 was OK, but I had to leave for the Cosby concert and missed
the last 40 minutes. Claimed score was: 13,120, about 10,000 points
down from the February Winter Sprint.
I also made one QSO in the Nevada QSO Party, about 90 in the CQ-M
contest, and about 90 in the Mid-Atlantic QSO Party. Won't submit logs
for either of them. The MAQP had a rule that limited all stations to
200 watts maximum. I didn't know that until the contest was over and I
had run about 1 KW for all QSOs. I think such rules are
counterproductive since they limit the number of possible QSOs for
everyone. Can't believe that LY3BA knew that rule either, since he was
so strong here on Sunday looking for MAQP stations. No wonder I had
such trouble finding MA stations on 80 meters in all the QRN we had on
the weekend and couldn't find any MA stations on 75 phone. It isn't
reasonable to expect that one can run stations on 75 and 40 SSB with 200
watts or less. As we go further down the cycle, this will only be more
true. No scatter QSOs are likely on the high bands either. I hope they
will do away with this rule. I dislike power multipliers for the same
reason. But, they aren't like a 100 or 150 or 200 watt maximum power
for all stations. That would really cripple an effort of a DX station
like LY3BA to work a state or regional QSO Party. I think it is better
to recognize LP and QRP stations with separate categories and
awards--not to limit all participants' possible QSOs by an arbitrary
rule. I do not advocate changing the 100 watt limit for NAQP contests,
however. Enough activity is generated by that one in the US/VE/NA.
However, it might be a good idea to allow DX stations outside NA to use
their full legal power. More DX QSOs and more fun for all. However,
that idea has been shot down already.
