Sorry I didn't get this forwarded before the Thursday night practice.
It hadn't come in when I checked my computer before leaving work. I did
get on last night. Note that 20M was open at the start of the contest,
0330Z, but not many people knew it. A good idea is to at least try 20M
if you can hear W1AW on 14047. W1AW was 599 at 0330 last night. I
worked N3BB in TX and W8LSH in CA and heard W6NL in CA. Beam west is
often the best idea, but sometimes the band is also open for short skip
to the north, such as N9CK in WI and VA3NR in ON.
Good idea to check everything out for the real Sprint Saturday night. I
was reminded last night to be careful about changing to a non-contest
band or mode while using rig control in a contest. I had changed to PKT
mode to tune my zepp to 40M and it caused my laptop to crash and it took
about five minutes to get it back up. I'll try not to do that during the
real thing when 5 minutes could mean 5 to 10 QSOs.
I'll try to practice for 30 minutes again tonight. 73, John, K4BAI.
