This Week's Contests:
1. QRP Fox Hunt 40M. 7030-7050 kHz. 0200-0330Z Wed (Tues night
local). Max power 5W. Work the two QRP foxes (K4BAI and WC7S).
Exchange: RST, SPC, Name, Power.
2. CW Ops Mini Tests. Three separate mini tests on Wednesday local
date. 1300Z, 1900Z, 0300Z (Friday UTC). 160-10M CW. Exchange: Name +
CWOps# or SPC. Look around 028 kHz on each band.
3. NAQCC QRP HandKey/Bug Sprint. 0130-0330Z Thurs (Wed night local).
80, 40, 20M CW. Max power 5W. Exchange: RST + SPC + NAQCC# or power.
Double score for HK. 1 1/2 x score for bug.
4. QRP Fox Hunt 80M. 3550-3570 kHz. 0200-0330Z Friday (Thursday night
local). Same rules as for 40M Fox Hunt on Tuesday night.
5. CQ South America SSB Contest. 24 hours of Saturday UTC. 160-10M
SSB. Exchange: RS + serial #. Work everyone. This is a new one to
me, but could be fun if the high bands open as expected.
6. SARL Field Day Contest. 10Z Sat to 10Z Sun. 160-10M CW, SSB,
Digital. Exchange: # of transmitters, Class, SA Province or "DX." So
our exchange for a US home station would apparently be 1E DX. I've
never heard anyone working the South African Field Day Contest.
7. LZ (Bulgaria) DX Contest. 12Z Sat to 12Z Sun. 80-10M CW, SSB.
Exchange: RS(T) + ITU Zone or 2 letter LZ District. Usually a lot of
activity in this one, particularly on CW. If you work stations, please
send in a log. I think no one gets credit if both logs are not submitted.
8. All Austrian 160M Contest. 16Z Sat to 07Z Sun. 160M CW. Exchange:
RST + QSO # or OE District Code.
9. RSGB 160M CW Contest. 21Z Sat to 01Z Sun. 160M CW. Exchange:
RST + QSO # or UK District Code.
10. ARRL Sweepstakes Contest, SSB. 21Z Sat to 03Z Mon. 160-10M SSB.
24 hours maximum operating time with at least 30 minutes minimum off
times. Exchange: QSO #, Precedence (A, B, Q, M, S), Call, Check (last
two numbers of year first licensed), ARRL or RAC section. 83 maximum
possible mults counted only once per contest, not per band. Club
aggregate score competition. This is the "big once" insofar as domestic
contests are concerned. Lots of fun possible.
11. Flying Pigs QRP Club November Run for the Bacon. 02-04Z Mon (Sun
night local). 160-10M CW. 5W maximum power. Exchange: RST, SPC, FP#
or power. I'd start on 20M around 14060. After 20 is worked out or if
it is dead, I'd go to 40M around 7040. Also check around 7030 for
activity. Rules say an experimental FP frequency also on 7104, but I've
not heard any activity there. After 40 slows, go to 80 around 3560 kHz.
Mults count per band. A lot of fun can be had in these sprint events.
KU8E and I will be leaving here Monday afternoon for Atlanta and flying
to Bonaire via Miami and Curacao. We will meet W1FJ and K1XM in the
Miami Airport. We plan to operate CQ WW CW again as PJ4A M/2. We will
be QRV as PJ4/home calls outside the contest. We should have e-mail, so
let us know if you want skeds, etc. I hope to be able to post this
report on time next Wednesday or Thursday, but it will be a very busy
time and it could be the weekend before I get it posted. Hope everyone
has a nice couple of weeks and weekends and Thanksgiving Holiday.
Included in those things that we should be thankful for is this
wonderful hobby of ours.
73, John, K4BAI.
