I faced a similar problem as we're getting ready to go to ZF for ARRL DX CW.
You can buy a dual port PCMCIA card that runs under DOS for $179
(http://www.psism.com/pca-ser2.htm). Pricey, yes, but it solves lots of
issues for many different purposes. Properly configured, you can end up
with 3 serial ports (2 on PCMCIA and original one)! It also runs (much
easier) under Win2K, NT and 98se (don't know about XP). Also, don't bother
with the floppy to run DOS. You can put the DOS system files in the FAT
partition (sys.com, this assumes you're building a new Win2K box and are not
worried about sys.com wiping out a fully configured 2K box's master boot
record. In other words, be careful!) and then you'll get a boot choice on
power up...either DOS or Win2K. Works like a champ and you don't have to
worry about loosing the floppy or any possible delays while the computer
looks for systems files on a floppy when sending code.

I am starting to prepare for WRTC-2002, and after years of using a venerable
486 desktop PC for my home station, I'm now venturing into the world of
laptops...
My boss has very graciously offered to loan me 2 high-powered Toshiba
laptops from work, and now I am trying to get them configured in the least
invasive manner (while keeping them functional for work use).
They are loaded with Windows 2K - I know that won't fly with TRLog, so,
after first creating a FAT partition, I have them set up to boot from a DOS
6.22 floppy. So far, so good...
Now...I need 2 serial ports in one of the laptops. Naturally, they come
equipped with only 1 serial port. They have a PCMCIA slot, but paying $150
for a PCMCIA serial port card seems pricey. They also have 2 USB ports, but
I don't think I can drive USB ports from DOS, can I ? So, what are people
doing to get extra serial ports from a laptop ?
