I Think it has something to do with the chip set, the hardware for PCMCIA 
controller. Looks like in some of the machines the hardware is not 
compatible with DOS drivers supplied for Argosy PCMCIA cards.
I use the same card here wich works fine  in old Dell Latitude but I get the 
same message you mentioned trying to use this card on newer Fujitsu Simens.
