I am completing a two-radio station, which I'll be using mostly for DXing,
and contesting.

For my "Rig #1" amp, I'm using a Titan. For "Rig #2", I'm thinking about
going with a solid-state amp - no tune-up and all that. Since I can always
rely on the Titan for "grunt", I'm not really concerned about not being able
to put out 1,500W on "Rig #2".

I'm thinking that the Hercules II might be a good candidate for "Rig #2". I
do have some questions which cannot be answered in Ten-Tec's literature. If
someone has some experience with this amp, I'd appreciate it if the
following questions could be addressed:

1) What is the REAL output of this amp? 500W? 550W? 600W?

2) What is the drive required to reach this level of output?

3) What is it's VSWR tolerance? In otherwords, does it start to turn down
power above 1.5:1, or does it happen at 2:1?

4) Are there any unusual quirks or other odd characteristics?

5) What does it need to auto bandswitch? I will be using it with a Yaesu FT
-1000MP or a JRC JST-245.

Thanks in advance for any help. If there's interest, I'll summarize and
post to the reflector.

Steve KC2X
