There has been some talk here about amplifiers for Scouts etc. I have the
T-KIT 1340 here and somewhere, I picked up a CB amplifier made by Palomar
who as you know makes some ham gear too. This is the TX-150 which I assume
means 150 watts out. Probably PEP not RMS! These little amplifiers
resemble the typical 2 meter brick amplifier, all heatsink with a few
switches on front. They have an RF sensing relay for changeover. All you do
is connect it in series with your feed line and apply 12vdc. I jump from 3
to about 50 watts this way.
Of course, there are no bandpass or low pass filters in these things but
they do work. In a mobile installation, I would expect the Q of the mobile
antenna would reject harmonics but in the shack you may want to use a tuner
or build a bandpass filter as described in the May issue of QST.
