There's a bit more to the subject than what has been covered. The
general coverage aspect is obvious.
However - if you are a casual operator, working your buddy down
the block, then the Paragon is fine. But - if you're a dx-er or a
contestor, it's the OMNI-V hands down.
The Paragon uses the typical PLL for band heterodyning, and is
plagued with the normal phase noise, both receive and transmit
that we all hate from the JA rigs. In fact, sometimes the phase noise
is really bad on transmit and needs touched up periodically.
The "V" uses an old-time crystal oscillator heterodyne scheme and
has zero phase noise. This also leads to some limitations, such as
long term instability in the calibration. Of course, you also have the
products that create "birdies" throughout the spectrum.
So - you have to make a decision on what type of operating you plan
to do with the radio. Believe me, if you're in a high rf area such as a
multi-multi contest station, or you live second door to another ham,
get the "V" - or better yet, the "6".
If not - and you don't want to have a second receiver for general coverage,
then the Paragon is the choice.
