I guess thatsince most people run the gain wide open, the manufacturers
decided to save the money. Anyway, a gain control or outboard
attenuator can always be added. There was an RF gain mod for the
Argosy I years ago and I have added a similar circuit to my Scout.
You might also consider the $ 300 computer controlled RX 320. I've
read some good things about it on this reflector and you can try
the software by downloading it from the Ten Tec site. PC control
may be the future of showtwave receivers, except the portable
variety.
