First congratulations on sticking with it and finding the answer, that is
just great. You have added a lot of value for each of us with your success,
an approach that worked.
Would you now be willing to try a slightly different approach? If you would
then maybe this experience could add a lot more value for the rest of us.
Hypothesis:
Use a quarter wave stub at 10, 12, or 17 meters as a counterpoise to see if
it would have sucked out the problem.
Discussion:
Occasionally I have had a similar situation, usually when I was doing
something temporary and a reconfiguration got rid of the problem. My worst
experience was when I was on a second floor apartment back in the late
1950's and had a KWM-1 on 20-15-10. It would go nuts with RF. I was less
familiar then, read young and crazy, and did not try a counterpoise. The
whole discussion of counterpoises came later but I for one sure would like
to see if a single 8 to 12 foot piece of wire would have resolved the issue.
The wire would be connected from the ground of the OMNI and allowed to just
stretch out over the floor. A second stage would be to run the counterpoise
from the sleeve of the microphone connector if the problem persisted.
The additional value to the rest of us would be appreciable if you could try
this.
