Front end overload can sound like a lot of things. A very strong
signal could cause the RF amplifier to saturate and drive it to
cut-off. This is called "blocking". What you would hear is just
tumping on cw and if you are off another frequency and your front end
is blocked by a strong signal then you wouldn't be able to hear any
signals. It's almost as if you had grounded your antenna input!
The other kind of front end overload results in undesired products
being generated in the front end resulting in intermodulation. You
would hear shortwave or AM BC stations where they shouldn't be such as
AM BC on 160m or 41 meter SW stations on 40 meters.
Both of these problems can sometimes be overcome by disabeling the
pre-amp or using an antenna tuner. T-Type networks like the "ultimate
tuner" design and most others are most effective in reducing BC
intereference because they act as high pass filters but they don't do
much for reducing harmonics from your transmitter. L networks such as
the TT 238 act as a low pass filter and do nothing for BC QRM but
reduce harmonics from the tranmitter so it depends on what you need.
Hopefully a modern rig isn't generating a lot of harmonics anyway.

As for the difference in the Omni vs the Paragon. The main difference
is between the RF amp and 1st IF. The Paragon uses PLL technology to
provide general coverage while the Omni uses a crystal osc/mixer to
provide hambands only. The Omni is supposed to produce less phase
noise and allows the insertion of optional filters in the first IF
making it more suitable for heavy QRM situations.

is there a big difference between the paragon and omni series?
