Hi Jim--Your posting has brought out some interesting comments. My
expertise is from 31 years in the service dep't at Amprite Elect. Co.,
in Nashville, TN.
First, I would have contacted suppliers of batteries and chargers for
their advice. However, since Mike,kc8wr, has posted such a fine
description of his set-up, I would seriously consider an exact copy. Not
knowing your electrical background, I must say "BE CAREFUL". Batteries
can produce A LOT of current. If shorted, they can explode. Large arcs
can tomporarily blind one,(sometimes permanantly), and the heat
generated can burn.
I am not trying to alarm you, just don't want to see a fellow ham in
trouble. Safety is the policy at Amprite. Be careful o f metal tools and
parts. They can fall across terminals with disasterous results.
The xyl (ka4yts) and I will in Hiawaii the last of Jan., first of Feb.
Your island is included in the tour. Perhaps we can qso on 2, as we will
have the ht. Freq. & times??
While I still have Drakes, my main rig is VI+. Ant is TH6DXX.100 ft
tower. No amp.
