To: All Net Readers
Have read with interest the various methods the net members use to
restore the front panels of the R-390/R-390A receivers to factory new
condition. The use of chemicals is not the best method since you
have to dispose of the chemicals after you complete the paint
removal. Finding a disposal yard that will accept the paint remover
can be difficult. I would recommend that net members consider
removal of paint from the R-390/R-390A front panels using the sand
plast method. Howard Mills (W3HM Labs) has the commerical sand
plasting capability to remove the paint on your favorite "boatanchor"
front panel. He also will paint your receiver or transmitter front
panel either engraved or sillk screened in your choice of colors;
black to 99 shades of gray to "titty" pink if that is your choice.
Howard recently stripped and painted a Hammarlund SP-600 receiver
engraved front panel for me. He did an outstanding job! Howard can be
contacted via e-mail (hmills@logicon.com) or home telephone (304-876-6483).
Howard's stripping/painting experience is extensive having painted the Collins
75A-1/2/3/4, R-390/R-390A, SP-600, KWS-1 to name a few. He has silk
screens for several "boatanchor" receivers and transmitters.
Regards,
Bill Mills

P.S. I am not a "relative" just a very good friend of Howard Mills
(+ 20 years).
