The subtone board is in a little module that slides on where the battery
holders goes and then the battery holders slides onto the bottom of it. It
has a series of 5 DIP switches on the back which determine what tone you
set it for.

The unit is based around the 5-switch subtone module by Communications
Specialists. A word of warning: Don't use an external amp with the HT while
you have the subtone unit attached. I did and burned out the module. I have
purchased another module but haven't gotten into the surgery of replacing it
in the unit.

You could probably wire something up inside the HT case if you have a way to
bring the switches to the outside. Or, if there's only one tone you want,
you could wire it up inside and set the switch on that one tone. Of course,
to change tones, you'd have to take the case apart.

I hope this helps.
