Dear fellow TT fans:

I've been trying to talk myself into a reason that I need a Ten-Tec 2m HT
for awhile now, and finally think I've come up with an actual practical
reason. What's that you say "why would you need a practical reason?", well
you see most of the repeaters around here use tones or soon will, and even
with an add on, its kind of inconvenient not to have the tones memorized
with the repeater memory. As much as I like to buy radios just for the sake
of collecting them, I like to feel that I've got some practical purpose that
they serve too. Its just rationalization, but it helps when I have to
explain to the xyl. (hi hi)

Anyway, I've begun to get interested in RDF work, and realize that a wide
open front end modern HT isn't ideal for a DF receiver. In fact you'd like a
very tight front end, preferably with very wide dynamic range, and a very
high quality sensitive receiver. One popular model for this purpose, believe
it or not, is the Radio Shack HTX-202 as it apparently has an amazingly good
front end, and is readily available inexpensively. I'm thinking that the
Ten-Tec HT might also be pretty good for this purpose. And you really don't
care about tones for this purpose.

My question is, does anyone have any solid experience comparing the receive
sensitivity, multipath rejection, and dynamic range of the Ten-Tec compared
to other similar units? I'd especially appreciate anyone who might be able
to do a direct comparison test between the RS HTX-202 and the Ten-Tec (yeah
I know most Ten-Tec ownerswould never own anything else, but maybe somebody
had a weak moment, or has some artifacts left over from their previous life
of sin, hi hi).

Thanks!
