I have hated the SSB audio on my Ten-Tec Omni VI (whew, got the
magic words in, I am OK for this reflector) since the day I got it. It
only sounds good in a headset; no speakers work well; I tried
many. However, I am also active in the digital modes, so I keep
the audio going through my sound card.

It took me two years to put two and two together, but when I finally
turned up the computer speaker audio while in SSB operation, lo
and behold, excellent audio.

As far as I can tell, if you have a digital mode processing program
such as Zakanaka or MMTTY, that has a notch and/or filter, you
may invoke those functions and they operate on the speaker audio.
I am not certain about this situation, but sounds seem to change
when I put in a dsp filter that is part of MMTTY. BTW, this filter
does not really improve copy.

Some setups may not output the input audio to speakers; audio
may be muted if you use vox in the digital modes.

You do not need a digital modes program for this approach to work.
All you need to do is to wire the radio's audio output to the mic or
line input of your sound card and set the mixer controls correctly.

I have been looking for a program that would do audio functions
using DSP, but have not found one that is understandable. I
suppose that this might be found in a fancy audio mixer program.

Of course, if you have fancy speakers, the audio controls will
operate.

Perhaps there are others who would be interested in chasing down
what is available, or who may have the programming skills to write
what is needed.

The aforementioned mods cost $ 0.00 (plus tax, less trade-in) to
implement, making them fully congruent with my parameters for
ham radio improvements.
